Sexy-ish ADHD Things
I think living with adult ADHD, impacts my sex life and my relationships in a multitude of ways. What about you?
For me, sex has been an interesting (and overstimulating) experience. There have been many times in my life where the idea of sex has been too much AND not enough.
Sex is a major point of conversation for ADHDers and their sexual partners. For example…
HYPOSEXUALITY
Basically this means the LOSS of sex drive or a lessened sex drive. ADHDers may find sex challenging to focus on, lose interest in the middle of sexual activity, or become easily distracted. Hyposexuality might be symptomatic of ADHD in some cases, but it is also a possible side effect of some ADHD medications or antidepressants that are often used to treat ADHD symptoms.
And there’s also…
INABILITY TO ORGASM
Which is A.) impacted by sex drive, B.) impacted by distractions, and C.) impacted by medications. Which is especially difficult when your sex drive is HIGH and you just can’t get to the point of complete satisfaction.
This is a super frustrating experience for anyone, imagine it from an ADHDer’s perspective.
HYPERSENSITIVITY
Is also a point of frustration for some ADHDer’s. Being hypersensitive may mean that stimulation of their genitals might be uncomfortable or even painful in someone with ADHD. This sensitivity may also extend to other senses as well. Let’s not forget…
HYPERACTIVITY
According to Medical News Today, “Hyperactivity, which is a symptom closely associated with ADHD, might also affect a person’s sex life. People with ADHD may find it difficult to relax or unwind, which could make it hard for them to become aroused. They may also feel the need to switch positions frequently or may be unable to stay focused long enough to have sex.”
The main thing to focus on when it comes to sex and the challenges ADHD presents is that you’re not alone. So many ADHDers struggle with one thing or many things with sex.

I was also recently interviewed by Jackie Lam for Buzzfeed. Check out the article below and what other ADHDers have to say about ADHD and sex.
LEARNING FROM LIVED EXPERIENCES
ALSO… I’m speaking at the Neurodivergent Lived Experience Summit this Friday! The summit will be happening all weekend long (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). I can’t wait to share my own lived experience with ADHD, Trauma, and Bipolar.
Can’t make it to The Neurodivergent Lived Experience Summit live?
I get it, it’s a busy time of year, and we can’t all get off work on the weekends.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy all the amazing presentations available at the summit.
Replays and transcripts of the presentations are available in the summit Goody Bag, along with over $400-worth of extra bonuses, like the Ultimate Social Anxiety Bundle, the Neurodivergent Love course, and so much more. Oh, and until the summit starts on January 6th, you can get the Goody Bag for just $49 (after January 6th, the price will go up to $97).
If you want to see me present, make sure you get your free ticket to the summit. Just send me a DM and I’ll send you the link to sign up!
I’ll be talking about How to live in a neurotypical world as a person living with and healing from trauma.
